There’s a great scene in the classic movie, Caddyshack, where young Danny Noonan is walking down the fairway with Ty Webb, played by Chevy Chase, contemplating his future. Danny says he has to go to college and Ty responds, “You don’t have to go to college. This isn’t Russia. Is this Russia? This isn’t Russia.” As any fan of the movie knows, Ty looks legitimately confused as to whether he might actually be in Russia.
Brendan Eich must feel like he’s walking down the fairway in Caddyshack this morning, with Vladimir Putin playing the role of Danny Noonan.
As recently as about 2011, the uber-liberal President of the United States, Barack Obama was AGAINST gay marriage. Were it not for an unforced error by blathering idiot Joe Biden, Barry very likely would still oppose gay marriage. There are plenty of people in the United States, a country theoretically governed by a constitution whose framers made free speech a cornerstone of its foundation, who oppose gay marriage. Now, in 2014, the very exercise of one’s first amendment right to free speech is grounds for dismissal from one’s job if the free speech one exercises happens to cross the line of liberal orthodoxy.
I keep thinking liberals can’t get any more hypocritical, but they continue to surprise me.
